Refreshers and Re-qualification

Refreshers

The basic life support programme (BLS) is suitable as an annual refresher session within a workplace when first aider's are trained to a higher level such as Emergency first aid at work (EFAW) or First aid at work (FAW).

This session can include AED use and also CPR/Choking for pediatrics included in the price of the BLS programme.

Additional subjects may also be added at the clients request e.g Anaphylaxis and auto injector training. Additional subjects will incur an additional charge and lengthening of the course.

See the Basic Life Support Page for further information for course and syllabus detail.

Re-qualification

The re-qualification programme is designed to meet the re-training requirements for holders of First Aid at Work (FAW).

The criteria to determine if students should attend either a full FAW or the re-qualification program should be based on a risk assessment approach by the employer which will identify if the learner will be able to simply refresh skills or will need additional time (as on the 18 hour course) to attain competency as a work place first aider. It is recommended re-qualification ideally takes place within a month of FAW expiry,

The re-qualification syllabus meets the criteria as laid down by HSE in document ACOP L74. The syllabus is the same as FAW but completed in less time a minimum of 12 hours contact time (2 days). Allow 7 hours per day to incorporate breaks.

See the First Aid at Work pages for more detail on the course syllabus and requirements.
